Custom Design Process FAQ
WHAT'S INCLUDED IN CUSTOM DESIGN?
The typical custom designed gown includes introductory style profile, garment sketch, material, color, and trims selection, 2-3 fittings, complete pattern work, and alterations as required. And of course, since it's custom, the experience itself can be custom tailored to your needs. Please let us know any special considerations at the time of booking.
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO BOOK MY GOWN?
For custom dresses, we recommend beginning the design process a minimum of 2-3 months prior to your wedding in the off-season, and 6 months in the busy season. Rush orders with less than 3 months will be accommodated wherever possible.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT LOOKS GOOD ON ME - HOW DO I CHOOSE A GOWN?
Firstly we suggest you try on a few stock gowns at local retailers. Get a feel for what fabrics you prefer to wear, and colors look the best against your skin. In your consultation, we can also explore the different components of a gown, and how to best complement your features.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FOR FITTINGS?
Your first fitting will be for overall fit; at this time the gown may be in rough form, to ensure all underlinings and support are adequately constructed for your frame. It is imperative to wear correct undergarments to all fittings, to ensure the gown will hang correctly on your figure. Typically, a second fitting confirms any adjustments are sufficient, and hem is added. Need more? We'll make it fit just right. We recommend allowing yourself at least a full hour for each fitting, to avoid feeling rushed, although appointments may take less. We also offer the option for a mockup of your gown, by request for an additional surcharge.
CAN I SUPPLY MY OWN MATERIALS?
Certainly. On several occasions clients may wish to incorporate their own materials, such as vintage pieces of lace, or decorative beading and brooches into their design. Occasionally, clients may find a fabric at a specialty or out of town shop; Diversity is encouraged at Malorin, and we would be happy to utilize any suitable fabric you provide. Please discuss this option during your initial consultation, to ensure the materials are in good condition and sufficient quantity for the design.
I WANT CUSTOM EMBROIDERY, BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO START?
Don't worry! Start looking for inspiration from other designers, doodle in your notebook, or find inspiration artworks online. Virtually any vector graphic can be converted into a unique embroidery.
WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR A DEPOSIT?
